Welcome to Venkys Universe!!

Rashomon effect is derived from the Japanese movie “Rashomon”.

Still have not watched the movie Rashomon but heard praises about this movie from many.
This movie was released in 1950 and has only introduced to the World about Japanese movies.Director Akiro Kurosawa
and his movies are well respected in Hollywood.

Rashomon movie has a story that a tragic event happens and the eye witness are called upon
to explain what they saw. Each eyewitness says a different version contradicting each other.
That is the same event but different versions from each of them’s viewpoint. This shows the basic
human tendancy of self interest and interpreting events accordingly to their convernience.

So Rashomon effect is described as the unreliability of eyewitness as each have their own self interested contradictory version
More detail can be found in the below link.

In Tamil movies, there is a Kamal Hassan movie called “Virumandi’ in which two characters in Jail would say their story
in different versions which is inspired from Rashomon.
